I'm back in Calgary in one piece. LA X is a crazy airport. Easy to arrive in from another country but extremely hard to get through if you're trying to leave, even at 4 am. It was an absolute zoo, right up there with London Heathrow. Which answered a question of mine- do airline hosts look and act that bright, authoriative, polished and cheery all round the clock, especially when you show up bleary eyed and washed out, having had to check through your toiletries over 100 ml for security purposes? The Answer- yes. Now all I need to work out is how they manage it and duplicate it at will for tough work days.
On my own bright note, my mini-break to Santa Monica LA was brilliant !! I had an awesome time and will report in more detail shortly, from Universal Studios to Disneyland to tours of the stars homes, Rodeo Drive and the Beverly Wiltshire Hotel (various scenes from Pretty Woman) to Mann's Chinese Theatre, Kodak Theatre (the Oscars) and the Walk of Fame (stars on the pavement).
To keep you all busy until then, check out these websites with video and sound and the park maps. I'll be referring to them later.
