Flashback Montreal to Ottawa

At the end of my Sunday with Giles and Kirsten we went on one of the coldest walks I have been on so far to a lookout point over the city (Mount Royale), where I finally had an appreciation that Montreal is essentially built on an island. The St Laurence River had seemed to follow me around those two weeks in Quebec province, very frozen and very beautiful.

That evening, as you will remember, Giles and I had absolutely no guilt about Kirsten eating yoghurt and going off to play competitive level Ultimate (frisbee). Meanwhile, he and I took off to Brutopia, a great pub downtown where we had "brewed on the premises" beers and then pizza and sat on our bums all evening talking each other's ears off.

The trees around much of eastern Canada in the cities are lit up with lights during the night, which is just fantastic to see and the next day, I was quite impressed at Montreal train station by the hub of long distance trains going to other parts of Canada and the US. The train going to New York reminded me how close the two cities really were and was a bit unreal to watch.
