Tune your banjo, load up your rifle, saddle your horse and wave away that paddle steamer... we're goin' into Frontierland.
From the primitive of Adventureland to the rough and ready of Frontierland, one area moves smoothly into the other. The Indiana-Jones style North African bizaar area gives way to a small lake on which the sailing ship Columbia and the Mark Twain Riverboat are berthed. We climbed aboard the Columbia and had a turn at 'piloting' the ship (I got very good at driving or pretending to drive stuff at Disneyland).
The big attraction of Frontierland is the Big Thunder Railroad ride, which looks and operates a little like a set of miner's carts through and around a big dusty mountain at high speeds. This ride, we did go on. Bec is fearless and she had promised to spend some quality time absorbing classic Disney fairytale stuff in Fantasyland with me. It was a point of pride not to be a pansy about "potentially scary" rides in return.
As the ride started up and was about to hurtle through rough-hewn fake rock tunnels and in and out the mountain, Bec (always the quick draw) whipped out her camera. Of course she didn't need to hold onto the safety bar and screw up her face. She was holding the camera at arms-length and laughing her head off at me. There are some terrific shots of our contrasting reactions which I will post ASAP. It was a lot of fun, despite me being a chicken and once I got off, I wanted to do it again.
