It's been a huge week and a half. There are lots of stories to be told from Montreal to Winnipeg but I know you all by now- you want to see the photos first :-)
My dear friend Giles http://www.bscb.cornell.edu/~hooker/ picked me up from Montreal train station on Friday 9 February 2007. I was overjoyed to see an old friend after only a mere 2.5 weeks of travelling (goes to show how soft I've become). Giles and I were close buddies at university and whilst I was lurking about the law school and the theatre school department going through my artyfarty phase, he was exercising insanely large numbers of brain cells to win the Maths medal and go on to do his PhD at Stanford blah blah- you get the picture. I am tremendously proud of being friends with someone who has become a professor by the age of 30, actually has a social life and isn't a tosser. His fatal flaw apart from a propensity to think too much is his accent. A lethal mix of Aussie, Canadian and now New York has created a scary accent of his very own- I call it "The Giles". I am sure that I could find a way of trademarking it, if only I could break it down into its various components.
Of course he has met his match in his sweetheart Kirsten, a med student PhD at McGill university who also is the Ultimate (for those playing at home Ultimate frisbee- which is a serious sport) Women's Captain of the McGill team. Apart from being beautiful and gracious, she also has more than a few brain cells to spare and is tremendous fun.
With any of the photos on the blog- you can double click on them to enlarge, which helps if they are a little dark and grainy- I don't have capacity to touch them up on picasa so they are as real as they can get.
So here are some great memories of Montreal, as one old mate and a lovely new friend, painted the town all sorts of colours in my honour.

Hmm, a lawyer is threatening to patent my voice? And in the US that might be possible. I had better get it listed under the GNU public license.
Fab to see you, Lisa! But will you kill the suspense -- how is Winnipeg?
Winnipeg is great and doesn't deserve the bad rap that it seems to get around the country. I mean, today I saw a giant statue of a polar bear wearing kangaroo print pyjamas on York Ave downtown, across the street from the law courts. Now if that's not a sign to stay put awhile, I don't know what is :-)
I will blog Winnipeg once I have done Montreal and Ottawa justice. Internet access is limited so please bear with me (pardon the pun) folks. Also, all the emails and blog comments have been very encouraging so please keep them up.
