Is ignorance bliss?

I think I have to stop looking at the weather reports on the internet for Canada. In certain areas, the weather is supposed to hit a minimum of minus 20 this week and it's not even Christmas yet. I'm putting on sunscreen here, bringing in the laundry off the line before it can fade in the 35 degree glare but I'm worrying about snow. Something is out of whack.

It could have something to do with the right lung I had to rebuild after last year's pneumonia. It could be that I have no comprehension of how they get motor vehicles started in that weather when my car wheezes and protests in minus 5. The Russians cope on exceptional amounts of vodka. The Canadians seem purely powered by good cheer. Do I have enough?
So, is it better to be ignorant of what I'm going into? I can't prepare much more than I have already. My abortive attempt to shop for thermals in Sydney was sublimely optimistic but completely ridiculous for this time of year. I have a backpack with a bizillion pockets and the ugliest pair of shoes I have bought in 10 years (hiking boots- some of you will be so proud of me). They have no sparkles, heels, flashy colours or special features. I would be upset if they weren't so flippin' comfy. So I've decided they will be like solid blocks of chocolate on my feet, well loved, indugently comfortable and familiar. And we will go around the world together, my little boots and I.

One of my favourite Crowded House songs, "Everywhere you go- you always take the weather with you". I think they meant it figuratively, not literally. There's my challenge.

Hey Chook

Definitely, ignorance is bliss. Sometimes the best times are when you have no idea what to expect and just wing it. At least that's what the Mikster and I have found when we have travelled o/s, especially when we went to Thailand. It might be best to wait until you get over there to buy gear for the Canadian weather as then you will know exactly what level of frostbite you will be dealing with :-) and they will also have better stuff available.

I think the cold will be fun!! Will give you lots of reasons to drink hot chocolate and snuggle up to mooses :-) just watch out for the antelers!

Big love

Ps. hmmm this gives me something new to Google - what is two or more mooses called...

Apparently, according to Professor Google, it is a Herd of moose. I am a bit underwhelmed - I was hoping it was something really out there.

Random fact - while looking this up I found out that a group of cockroaches is called an "intrusion of cockroaches".

Ain't that the truth!
